ABOUT THE FARM

Moffatt’s Tree Farm is a 4th generation family business located in the beautiful town of Craftsbury, Vermont, which is considered part of the Northeast Kingdom, a region of the state that is still mostly rural and undeveloped. The land has been in the family since the 1930s at which point it was a dairy farm run by Bob and Eila Moffatt. Their son Jim and his wife, Joan, took over the farm around 1960, continuing to work the land as a dairy farm and expanding to add a large maple sugaring operation. Jim and Joan decided to plant a few Christmas trees to sell in addition to the wild-harvested trees they had been selling ‘down-country’.

Over the years, the tree farm grew with the help of their son, Steve and his wife, Sharon, who took over the business around 2000. Their adult sons Aidan and Gibson work as they are able during our shearing and harvest seasons while also having careers off-farm. We have over a hundred acres of trees in Craftsbury and surrounding towns, all of which get our individual year-round attention.  We grow mostly balsam and fraser fir in a variety of sizes, shapes, and grades, from table tops to twenty footers.   Many of our wholesale customers have been with us for over forty years and we value their business, yet we always welcome the opportunity to develop new relationships.
